A POWERFUL HEARTFELT CHRISTIAN LOVE DEVOTION
An Affirmation Prayer of Love
Dear Father God, I thank you for Your “great love” and that You are “rich in mercy” (Eph. 2:4) towards me and all who love you. Yesterday, in A POWERFUL HEARTFELT CHRISTIAN LOVE DEVOTION, I learned how The Fall has affected me. I love my spouse dearly and yet I refuse to be vulnerable and instead I’ve found a way to hide from them and you. Forgive me, Lord. “Because of Your lovingkindness and mercies, I am not consumed, for Your compassion Lord will never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness” Lord unto me (Lam. 3:22, 23). Thank You, Father. I pray this in Jesus’ compassionate and faithful name. Amen.
THE CORE OF GOD’S COVENANT WITH US IS LOVE
A POWERFUL HEARTFELT CHRISTIAN LOVE DEVOTION teaches us that the core of the Lord’s covenant with us is love. In his book, The Lost Secret of the New Covenant, Malcolm Smith wrote
God makes covenants not only to show loving-kindness but to reveal that He is all that it means. Behind the covenant that He makes is the core of His heart, which is infinite love. This is the heart of God that comes to us in Christ and the Gospel.
He set His love upon us before we were born, without asking our permission. He is the God who, so Jesus tells us, delights to throw wild parties for the undeserving failures in life, to celebrate them and declare them His own. You are not working toward His love; you are now, in this moment, loved.
We begin our journey into understanding the heart of God’s love by knowing that we are loved and highly valued by God. We receive His love with thanks: we surrender to that love and rest secure in it.”
The Heart of God Is His Loving-kindness
The Hebrew word for loving-kindness (hesed) is used approximately 250 times in the Old Testament and is defined as mercy, loyalty, faithfulness, and steadfast or unfailing love. Hesed describes the core of God’s love, which is love in action.
It was God keeping every word, and giving every blessing He had promised to His people. As you read the following Scriptures please keep in mind that whenever you see the word loving-kindness, it is the Hebrew word hesed. It not only reveals His intimate and unconditional love for His Old Covenant people but also for you in this present moment.
The Lord’s loving-kindnesses (hesed) indeed never ceases, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness” (Lam. 3:22, 23).
Read and Match the Following Scriptures
Read the following verses. Then match the verse with what you learn about the loving-kindness of God.
___Psalms 40:10, 11 a) Abundant in Loving-kindness
___Jonah 4:2c b) My Covenant of Peace Will Not Be Shaken
___Isaiah 54:8, 10 c) Your Loving-kindness Will Preserve Me
The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying, ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with loving-kindness (hesed).” (Jer. 31:3).
Try Journaling the Following Questions
- Personalize the above meanings of hesed (defined as mercy, loyalty, faithfulness, and steadfast or unfailing love) as God would speak it directly to you.
