We love essential oils! Why? We’ve been using them for over 19 years in our counseling practice and personally in our bedroom, and we know firsthand they work. Essential oils have the power to ignite passion, romance, and intimacy in your marriage.
Case in point. When we first began our counseling practice, we saw all of our clients in-person, so they all benefited from essential oils. Ten years later, we started to see many clients online, and they didn’t have the same experience of using our essential oils as our in-person clients. They were not as relaxed and peaceful during the healing process, and for those clients who were on the more apathetic side, they were NOT more present, aware, and intentional as the in-person clients were.
We particularly like Sensations from Young Living and Ylang-Ylang from Rocky Mountain Oils. These ignite more romance, passion, intentionality, intimacy, and presence in our lovemaking. Plus, we feel strongly that couples need to use all five senses in lovemaking, and essential oils certainly provide the “smell” purpose.
Our embarrassing story with essential oils
Here’s a funny story of how we learned the hard way NOT to use essential oils in our lovemaking. We were on a weekend getaway to an Airbnb in the mountains of Colorado, far away from city life. Of course, we brought all the romantic products that sex therapists would suggest, like battery-operated candles (learned from a mistake there too-we didn’t want to burn down another Airbnb), music, massage oil, and essential oils.
We decided to do a slow sensual massage first, but it quickly moved into a passionate lovemaking session where we forgot that we had essential oils on our fingertips. Let’s just say it didn’t burn Bill as it did me! We knew one thing to be true; to stop the burning sensation from using an essential oil, you don’t try to wash it off with water (it makes it burn more), but you use some type of oil, which slows the absorption rate.
Since there were no 24-hour grocery stores nearby, we were desperate, so we did something we normally wouldn’t do. We snuck into the host’s kitchen at 11 PM and snooped around to find some oil. We finally found the prized possession of olive oil, and relief washed over us. We began our escape back up to our room when suddenly the host appeared at the door (Bill regrets not putting on his robe, LOL!), and with wide eyes, the host stuttered, “Can I help you?” Bill peeked out from behind my fully-robed self and answered, “We needed a little dipping oil,” which wasn’t a lie! I was horrified, so I sheepishly added, “Ya know, for our Italian bread,” which was a BIG FAT LIE!
Let’s just say from then on, we always bring coconut oil with our essential oils.
Okay, just kidding, Bill was wearing a robe; I wasn’t!
Oops! And another big fat lie! We were both wearing robes! However, honest to God, cross my heart, everything else is entirely true.
Oh, wait a minute, we never burned down a previous Airbnb, just the top of a dresser in our bedroom.
We hope you’re learning to laugh a little and have some fun in your marriage; just be sure to BURN with passion!
Now onto the true purpose of this blog: igniting romance and passion by unleashing the power of essential oils for your marriage.
Romance and passion are integral components of a fulfilling and exciting marriage. While there are various ways to enhance these aspects, one unique and aromatic method is by incorporating essential oils. Essential oils have the power to ignite passion, romance, and intimacy. These concentrated plant extracts have been used for centuries for their therapeutic properties, and they can be a valuable tool in creating an ambiance of love, desire, and sensuality. Let’s explore the enchanting world of essential oils and discover how they can spice up your romantic life.
the art of aromatherapy
Essential oils are highly concentrated, aromatic liquids derived from various plants, such as flowers, leaves, stems, bark, and roots. They are often used in aromatherapy, beauty products, and emotional healing due to their distinct scents and potential therapeutic properties. Extraction methods for essential oils vary depending on the plant source, but steam distillation and cold-press extraction are two standard techniques.
Once extracted, essential oils are highly concentrated and should be used with care. They can be used topically, inhaled, or diffused, but following proper dilution guidelines for therapeutic use is important. Young Living has an excellent handbook called “Essential Oils Pocket Reference.”
the power of scents: how aromas influence emotions and desires
The power of scents found in essential oils is remarkable in influencing our emotions and desires. The olfactory system, which governs our sense of smell, is closely linked to the brain’s limbic system, which is responsible for emotions, memories, and motivation. When we inhale specific aromas, the molecules of the essential oils interact with receptors in our nasal passages, triggering a cascade of chemical reactions in the brain. This can evoke emotional responses, uplift our spirits, and even ignite our desires.
For example, the scent of lavender is known for its calming and relaxing properties, while citrus scents like lemon or orange can invigorate and energize. By harnessing the power of scents, we can create an environment that enhances our emotional well-being, deepens our connections, and supports our desires for various aspects of life.
the science of aphrodisiacs: understanding the connection between scents and arousal
The science of aphrodisiacs explores the fascinating relationship between scents and arousal, shedding light on certain aromas’ profound impact on our desire and sexual experiences. Research suggests that smells can directly influence our emotions, physiology, and even brain chemistry, which is crucial in shaping our sexual responses. Essential oils have the power to ignite passion, romance, and intimacy. When we encounter specific scents, the molecules in the aromatic compounds interact with receptors in our nasal passages, triggering a cascade of chemical signals in the brain. This stimulates the limbic system, which is closely associated with emotions, memories, and motivation, including sexual desire. Certain aromas can enhance mood, reduce stress and anxiety, increase blood flow, and even stimulate the release of neurotransmitters associated with pleasure and reward, such as dopamine. By understanding this intricate connection between scents and arousal, we can harness the power of essential oils and fragrances to create an enticing and sensual environment, heightening our sexual experiences and deepening our connections with our partners.
aphrodisiac essential oils for romance
Essential oils have long been revered for their aphrodisiac properties, capable of boosting desire and passion in intimate relationships. Several essential oils are known for their ability to ignite sensuality and create a romantic ambiance. Essential oils can remarkably unleash passion and desire within us due to their profound impact on our senses and emotions. Certain aromas possess aphrodisiac qualities that stimulate our senses and create heightened arousal.
For example, essential oils can awaken our passion, evoke feelings of warmth, and increase blood flow, ultimately enhancing our overall sense of sexual desire and sexual functioning. Additionally, essential oils have the power to relax and reduce stress, which can be crucial in fostering a receptive and intimate atmosphere. By incorporating these aromatic oils into our lives, we tap into their ability to create an enchanting ambiance, heighten our sensual experiences, and unleash a passionate spark within ourselves and our relationships.
These are the specific essential oils researched to help ignite passion, romance, and intimacy, along with eroticism in your sexuality:
Ylang-Ylang is often celebrated for its alluring floral scent, which can enhance feelings of desire and heighten sensuality.
Jasmine, with its rich, sweet aroma, is believed to have a powerful effect on emotions, promoting relaxation and stimulating desire. It elevates sensuality and creates an atmosphere of intimacy.
Rose is the quintessential symbol of love, promoting affection and connection. It is an intoxicating and luxurious fragrance renowned for its ability to evoke feelings of love and passion.
Patchouli enhances desire and promotes relaxation for intimate moments.
Other oils that can boost desire include sandalwood, known for its grounding and sensual scent, and clary sage, which promotes euphoria and heightened sensitivity. When used mindfully and with proper dilution, these essential oils can enhance the romantic atmosphere, encourage relaxation, and kindle passion, allowing couples to create deeper connections and embrace the sensual aspects of their relationship.
creating an ambiance of love
Essential oils can create an ambiance of love, infusing spaces with an enchanting and romantic atmosphere. The fragrances emitted by certain oils, such as rose, jasmine, and sandalwood, evoke feelings of warmth, sensuality, and tenderness. These scents have been celebrated for centuries for their ability to awaken the senses and evoke emotions associated with love and intimacy. When diffused, essential oils can envelop a room with their captivating aromas, setting the stage for moments of connection and affection and creating an inviting and cozy environment that encourages relaxation, vulnerability, and deeper emotional connections. Whether it’s a romantic dinner, a cozy evening together, or a relaxing bath, the ambiance created by essential oils can enhance the experience and foster an atmosphere of love, tenderness, and togetherness. Essential oils can also create a romantic and sensual bath experience.
massage and sensual touch
Using essential oils for massage and sensual touch can enhance the experience, promote relaxation, and deepen your connection.
First, choose a high-quality aphrodisiac oil from above. Then dilute the essential oil in a carrier oil, such as coconut, sweet almond, or jojoba, to ensure safe and gentle application. Start by creating a serene, comfortable environment with soft lighting and calming music.
Warm the diluted oil by rubbing it between your hands, then begin the massage with slow, gentle strokes, focusing on areas like the back, shoulders, and neck. Use varying pressures and techniques to cater to your partner’s preferences as you progress. Pay attention to their responses, ensuring your spouse is comfortable and enjoying the experience.
The aromatic blend of essential oils will heighten the senses and create an atmosphere of relaxation, sensuality, and intimacy, allowing you both to connect on a deeper level through the power of touch and scent.
Warning! While essential oils do have the power to ignite passion, romance, and intimacy, do not use essential oils on the genitals! They will burn these tender areas. Water will not wash them off but only make them burn more, so separate your massage experience from your lovemaking experience.
safety precautions and dilution
When using essential oils, it’s crucial to prioritize safety and take necessary precautions. Proper dilution is critical to ensure the oils are used safely on the skin. Before applying to the skin, most essential oils should be diluted in a carrier oil, such as almond or jojoba oil. The recommended dilution ratio typically ranges from 1% to 5%, depending on the specific oil and the intended use.
Patch testing is also vital to assess any potential sensitivities or allergic reactions. Before using a new essential oil, apply a small amount diluted on a patch of skin and wait 24 hours to observe for any adverse reactions. Additionally, some essential oils are phototoxic, meaning they can cause skin sensitivity when exposed to sunlight. Examples of phototoxic oils include citrus oils like bergamot and lemon. It’s crucial to educate yourself about each oil’s specific safety guidelines, including any contraindications or precautions, and consult reputable sources or professionals for guidance.
By practicing proper dilution, conducting patch tests, and being mindful of potential risks, you can enjoy the benefits of essential oils while prioritizing safety and well-being.
